Sullam (سُلَّم) means ladder, symbolizing ascent and progress. The word shares the same root as peace (سِلم).
Sullam is a Syrian nonviolent organization dedicated to advancing the principles of nonviolence and fostering a culture of peace, justice, and social cohesion. Officially launched in spring 2024, Sullam emerged after years of training, preparation, and collaboration among activists from diverse regions and communities across Syria, united by a shared belief in nonviolence as the foundation for positive social transformation.
Sullam builds upon decades of nonviolent action in Syria, shaped by the contributions of countless activists and civil groups. As part of this broader movement, we seek to strengthen networks, promote collaboration, and work alongside individuals and initiatives that share our vision and values.
Vision
To contribute to a cohesive and peaceful Syrian society founded on dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect. For Sullam, nonviolence is not only a strategy for change but also a way of life that advances justice, equality, and dignity for all.
Mission
To promote a culture of nonviolence within Syrian society by training, educating, and connecting young people, thereby building and sustaining an active movement for peace.

Our Impact in 2025
In the coming years, Sullam aims to expand its reach by increasing the number of youth trained in nonviolence, strengthening grassroots initiatives across Syrian communities, and deepening partnerships with regional and global nonviolent movements. Our goal is to create a sustainable, nationwide culture of peace that can withstand conflict and polarization.
To achieve this vision, we rely on the support of partners and donors who share our commitment to peace and justice. With your support, Sullam can scale up its programs, reach more communities, and ensure that the values of nonviolence and dialogue become lasting foundations for Syria’s future.
